Brunswick House Primary School is internationally linked with Chipoka II Primary School in Malawi, having achieved the International Schools Award. We established the link with the charity, Starfish Malawi and maintain it with regular annual visits to the school and consistent contact throughout the school year. We had two visits across to Chipoka II last year, with Mrs Clarke going in May and then Miss Zigler and Miss Brigden in October. During both visits, we taught lessons planned by our teachers at Brunswick House, we also taught lessons using plans from the Malawian teachers and we were all able to experience life within a different culture by joining in traditional dance lessons, lessons in Chichewa, (their native tongue) and to also share with the staff and pupils stories and experiences about life in England. We then cascade our experiences down to the pupils with Malawian style assemblies followed by lessons which had been planned by the teachers at Chipoka II.
We also work with our link school to bring together a school newspaper, BBCII NEWS which has articles and reports from our Roving Reporter clubs in both schools. We are currently working on a penpal club and other activities that both schools can participate in. We are very proud of the hard work put in by both schools to enhance our link with Chipoka ll. We have a partnership agreement which is updated during each visit to ensure that we are following our agreed terms and curricular links. A further visit is planned by our Link Co-Ordinator in May 2018. Chipoka II thanks all staff, pupils and parents for their continued support and donations which are regularly sent on behalf of our school.
